Born on June 4, 1974, in the peaceful village of Phulbari Ghumti, Dolakha, Mr. Tamang’s journey started far from the world of global luxury interiors. With limited educational opportunities in his village, he moved to Kathmandu at age 15—driven by a deep desire to create a better future.
It was in Kathmandu where he found his calling. While continuing his studies, he joined a professional carpet design course, setting the stage for what would become a lifelong passion.
His dedication and talent soon led him to a senior designer role in a private carpet company. Between 2000 and 2003, Mr. Tamang took part in an advanced three-year training program in carpet design—organized by the Nepal Carpet Association in collaboration with international partners like GTZ and JICA.
He also trained under expert designers from around the world, sharpening his creative vision and staying ahead of global design trends. From 1994 to 2008, his bold, contemporary designs became popular in European and American markets.
After over a decade as a senior designer, Mr. Tamang launched Buy Tibetan Rugs Industries—his own brand focused on artistic freedom, ethical practices, and traditional craftsmanship. The company creates luxury, custom-designed Tibetan carpets using sustainable Himalayan wool and natural silk, all hand-knotted by skilled artisans.
Together with his wife, Kinjo Dolma Lama, he built more than just a business—they built a community. Their shared values of respect, sustainability, and creativity are woven into every rug.
